Planning to travel to Thailand? Then it is essential to be well prepared. Besides arranging your travel documents and accommodation, it is important to know what visa requirements apply in Thailand. In this article, we tell you all about the visa rules for Dutch travellers.
NEED A VISA TO THAILAND
Whether you need a visa for your trip to Thailand depends on your travel situation. If you hold a Dutch passport and plan to stay in Thailand for a maximum of 60 days, you do not need a visa. Upon arrival, you will receive a stamp in your passport confirming this visa-free entry. However, you must be able to prove that you are staying for a maximum of 60 days by, for example, a return flight ticket.
LONGER STAYS IN THAILAND
However, if you plan to stay in Thailand for more than 60 days, you will need to apply for a visa. This can be in the form of a pre-arranged e-visa. This can be applied for via the website of the Thai embassy in The Hague. The information on this site is worked out in English.
There are also options to extend your stay if you are already in Thailand. Namely, you can extend your stay by 30 days by applying at a local immigration office in Thailand, but be sure to be on time so that it can still be arranged before the 60 days are up.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD YOU CONSIDER FOR YOUR TRIP TO THAILAND?
There are a few more points to consider before your trip to Thailand:
- Validity of your passport: Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months at the start of your holiday.
- Travelling with children: Children need their own passports. Are you travelling alone with a minor child? Then check the required documents carefully in advance to avoid long waits during your trip.
- Driving licence: Do you want to rent a vehicle in Thailand? Then your Dutch driving licence is only valid in combination with an international driving licence. A motorbike licence is required to drive a scooter or motorbike.
