If you are planning to travel to Vietnam soon, it is essential to be well prepared, especially when it comes to your health. Why is this so important? Because you don't want an unexpected illness to disrupt the trip of your dreams. Vaccinations help protect you from infectious diseases that are common in Vietnam. So make an appointment in time to get yourself vaccinated.
Health risks in Vietnam
Vietnam is a breathtaking country with rich culture and impressive nature, but it also carries some health risks. Malaria is prevalent in some parts of the country. For this, we recommend providing good mosquito repellents. For certain parts of Vietnam, it is also wise to bring an emergency malaria treatment. In addition, you can get traveller's diarrhoea in this country, for which we recommend bringing ORS and Diacure. Furthermore, Dengue, or dengue fever, also occurs in Vietnam.

To travel to Vietnam, there are no mandatory vaccinations. However, certain infectious diseases do occur in this country. Therefore, it is wise to still get vaccinated when going to Vietnam, regardless of the length of your stay. The travel advice for Vietnam recommends the following vaccinations:
- DTP
- Hepatitis A
- BMR

Travel pharmacy on the go
If you are travelling to Vietnam, in addition to the recommended vaccinations, it is also wise to bring a small travel pharmacy for the road. In this you can put the following items, among others:
- patches
- iodine
- remedies for fever, diarrhoea, constipation, insect bites
- travel sickness medication
- ORS
- vitamin tablets
- disinfection gel
- anti-malaria tablets
- mosquito oil with DEET
- First aid items
If you are taking drugs that fall under the Opium Act (think certain sleep aids, strong painkillers and ADHD drugs), you must carry a legalised, English-language medical certificate. Without a declaration, it is punishable to travel with these drugs.
