South Korea is a country of contrasts, with clearly defined seasons, each offering its own charm and activities. The best time to travel depends on your preferences and the region you want to visit. Below is an overview by season:
Spring (April - June): One of the most beautiful periods to visit South Korea. Nature awakens with exuberant blossoms, especially the famous cherry blossoms that envelop the entire country in a fairytale atmosphere. Ideal for city breaks in Seoul and Busan, or walks through national parks such as Jirisan and Seoraksan.
Summer (July-August): Warm and humid, with occasional rain due to the monsoon season. This is the perfect season for beach lovers who want to explore the coast of Jeju Island or Haeundae Beach. In the mountains, you can enjoy cooler temperatures and plenty of outdoor activities, but be prepared for crowds and high humidity.
Autumn (September - November): The most popular travel time because of the mild weather and spectacular autumn colours. The forests and mountains turn bright red, orange and yellow, especially in areas such as Nami Island and the mountains around Seoul. This season lends itself perfectly to hiking and cultural festivals.
Winter (December - February): Cold and dry, with snow in the interior and mountains. Winter sports fans can enjoy top ski resorts such as Pyeongchang and Gangwon-do. There is also a magical atmosphere in the cities with winter lights and traditional festivities.
Note that South Korea has significant regional differences: the southern coast and Jeju Island are milder in winter, while the interior can be severely freezing. For those who want to avoid the crowds and enjoy pleasant temperatures, spring and autumn in particular are ideal travel times.
