Nepal has different climates and seasons, each with its own charm. The best travel time depends on your interests and the regions you want to visit. Here is an overview by season:
Spring (March - May): One of the best times to visit Nepal. Temperatures are pleasant, the air is relatively clear and nature is in bloom, especially the famous rhododendrons in the hill regions. Ideal for trekking in the Annapurna, Everest and Langtang regions, or for cultural visits to Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan.
Summer / Monsoon (June - September): During the monsoon season, Nepal is hot, humid and rainy, especially in the lower elevations. This season is less suitable for intensive trekking due to muddy paths and clouds that obstruct the view. However, it is a wonderful time for those who love lush green landscapes and tranquillity, as it is considerably less crowded. Regions in the rain shadow, such as Mustang, are actually easy to travel during this period.
Autumn (October - November): The most popular travel time. After the monsoon, the skies are exceptionally clear, temperatures are mild and views of the Himalayas are at their best. Perfect for trekking, safaris in Chitwan and tours across the country. Keep an eye out for more travellers on popular routes such as the Everest Base Camp Trek.
Winter (December - February): An excellent period for travelling through lower areas, such as the Terai, Chitwan and Lumbini, with pleasant temperatures. In the mountains, however, it can get very cold and some higher trekking routes are less accessible due to snow. Winter does offer quiet cities, blue skies and an authentic atmosphere.
Please note that Nepal has great altitude differences, from tropical jungles to the world's highest mountains. As a result, weather conditions can vary greatly from region to region. For those seeking clear views and stable weather, spring and autumn are usually the best choice.
