Frequently asked questions Nepal

Nepal's unique identity
Nepal lies between two superpowers but has managed extraordinarily well to maintain its own identity.

The three royal cities
The capital Kathmandu is the starting point of many trips and, together with Bhaktapur and Patan, is also known as the Three Cities of Kings. These historic cities have several special attractions that are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Be sure to visit Durbar Square, with its beautiful pagoda temples and palaces. It is also interesting to have a look at the potters of Bhaktapur and walk through the narrow streets of the 2,600-year-old city of Patan.

Pokhara: gateway to the Annapurna region
The second largest city, Pokhara is a popular destination for nature lovers and trekkers. It is the perfect base for one-day hikes or multi-day treks through the Annapurna Mountains. There are also plenty of other activities to do, from boating on the beautiful Phewa Lake to mountain biking to local villages.

Wildlife in Chitwan National Park
To spot wildlife, you can go on safari in Chitwan National Park. The park has a huge diversity of flora and fauna. Besides one-horned rhinos, monkeys, crocodiles and elephants, Bengal tigers are also found here.

Mustang: authentic and less visited
An area less frequently visited is Mustang. This authentic area is the perfect place to experience Tibetan culture outside Tibet, offering impressive and rugged landscapes.

Nepal has different climates and seasons, each with its own charm. The best travel time depends on your interests and the regions you want to visit. Here is an overview by season:

Spring (March - May): One of the best times to visit Nepal. Temperatures are pleasant, the air is relatively clear and nature is in bloom, especially the famous rhododendrons in the hill regions. Ideal for trekking in the Annapurna, Everest and Langtang regions, or for cultural visits to Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan.

Summer / Monsoon (June - September): During the monsoon season, Nepal is hot, humid and rainy, especially in the lower elevations. This season is less suitable for intensive trekking due to muddy paths and clouds that obstruct the view. However, it is a wonderful time for those who love lush green landscapes and tranquillity, as it is considerably less crowded. Regions in the rain shadow, such as Mustang, are actually easy to travel during this period.

Autumn (October - November): The most popular travel time. After the monsoon, the skies are exceptionally clear, temperatures are mild and views of the Himalayas are at their best. Perfect for trekking, safaris in Chitwan and tours across the country. Keep an eye out for more travellers on popular routes such as the Everest Base Camp Trek.

Winter (December - February): An excellent period for travelling through lower areas, such as the Terai, Chitwan and Lumbini, with pleasant temperatures. In the mountains, however, it can get very cold and some higher trekking routes are less accessible due to snow. Winter does offer quiet cities, blue skies and an authentic atmosphere.

Please note that Nepal has great altitude differences, from tropical jungles to the world's highest mountains. As a result, weather conditions can vary greatly from region to region. For those seeking clear views and stable weather, spring and autumn are usually the best choice.

Nepal is a country where impressive mountain landscapes, ancient culture and vibrant traditions converge. From majestic Himalayan peaks to spiritual cities and verdant jungles, each region has something unique to offer.

Discover the highlights of Nepal:

  • Kathmandu: The bustling capital full of temples, markets and ancient heritage. Visit the Durbar squares, the Swayambhunath stupa and the colourful Thamel district.
  • Bhaktapur: A historic royal city with beautifully preserved palaces, crafts and traditional Newari architecture.
  • Patan: A cultural treasure trove of monasteries, carvings and unique temples, located a stone's throw from Kathmandu.
  • Pokhara: The gateway to the Annapurna Mountains, known for its serene lakes, views of snow-capped peaks and numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, boating and paragliding.
  • Chitwan National Park: One of the best places in Asia to spot wildlife. Here live one-horned rhinos, elephants, crocodiles and, with luck, even Bengal tigers.
  • Lumbini: The birthplace of Buddha, a spiritual place with monasteries, temples and a serene atmosphere.
  • Everest region: World-famous for its spectacular trekking routes, sherpa culture and, of course, the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest.
  • Mustang: An authentic, remote region with desert landscapes and deep Tibetan traditions. Perfect for travellers seeking the peace and mystique of the Himalayas.

Whether you love nature, culture or adventure, Nepal offers a diverse and unforgettable travel experience.
