Destinations
Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh bears the unmistakable marks of Cambodia's tumultuous Khmer Rouge past. Despite the scars of that tragedy, today there is an overwhelming sense of freedom and friendliness among Cambodians. This makes Phnom Penh a very attractive destination today. The city's main attractions include the Royal Palace, the Wat Phnom pagoda, the central market and much more.

Kampong Cham
Kampong Cham, named after the Cham Muslim inhabitants who immigrated here centuries ago, is one of the largest urban centres in eastern Cambodia and an important transit point for onward travel connections. It is nonetheless a laid-back town with a picturesque riverside setting and an evocative mix of historical architecture —including traditional Chinese shopfronts, elegantly weathered French colonial buildings and the so-called ‘New Khmer architecture’ developed during Cambodia’s heyday in the 1960s. Several ancient temples and shrines are scattered throughout the city’s surroundings, adding to the city’s timeless, mystical allure.

Sa Dec
Sa Dec is a tranquil former capital, situated in Dong Thap province in Vietnam. Once home to the famous French novelist Marguerite Duras, and also the inspiration for her book *The Lover*, the town attracts literary fans who can immerse themselves in the authentic atmosphere of the book by visiting the magnificent, elegant Huynh Thuy Le Old House, where the author’s love affair inspired her to write. Sa Dec is also home to many beautiful sacred buildings. A must-see is the magnificent Huong Pagoda, adorned with intricate designs of animal figures; and the colourful Cao Dai Temple by the river, which also offers stunning views from its towers. The Flower Village, where herbs and ornamental plants are also sold, is an excellent place to get to know the locals a little better and is particularly magical around the time of Tet (the Lunar New Year).
Tân Châu
Tân Châu, situated in An Giang province on the banks of the Tiền River, is a riverside town renowned for its traditional crafts and cultural richness. Often referred to as the ‘silk capital’ of South Vietnam, the town is famous for Lãnh Mỹ A, a unique hand-woven silk dyed with natural ebony fruits. This silk was once favoured by the royal family and is now prized for its deep black lustre. The town offers a glimpse into authentic riverside life, with bustling floating markets, stilt houses and boats making their way through the waterways. Visitors can tour weaving workshops, sample local delicacies and enjoy the warm hospitality of the Mekong Delta. Surrounded by fertile fields and lotus ponds, Tân Châu combines traditional craftsmanship with natural beauty, making it a charming stopover for travellers seeking tradition and tranquillity.

Siem Reap
Best known as the gateway to the magnificent ancient Angkor temple complex. Siem Reap is a cosy town with beautiful French colonial and contemporary architecture. The main attraction is of course the Angkor complex, covering an area larger than Paris. Abandoned for unknown reasons thousands of years ago, the area was rediscovered in 1860 by a French explorer, Henri Mahout. Other attractions in and around Siem Reap include the many arts and crafts shops, the Tonle sap lake and the Prek Toal bird sanctuary.

Cambodia

Vietnam

Mekong River Delta
The Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam consists of a 60,000 km network of connected waterways stretching across three Vietnamese provinces. This lush, tropical delta is dominated by Southeast Asia's most powerful river, the Mekong. Exploring these rivers and their numerous tributaries is, of course, ideal by boat. The area is full of small artisan villages, Khmer pagodas, beautiful mangroves, picturesque orchards and some remarkable floating markets.

Tonlé Sap
Tonlé Sap (the Great Lake) is Cambodia’s most distinctive geographical feature, swelling to a massive 12,000 square kilometres during the rainy season. The lake and its floodplains are a key fishing and agricultural region, contributing significantly to the country’s economy. It also has plenty to offer visitors: traditional floating villages inhabited by a diverse mix of Vietnamese, Khmer and Muslim residents; superb birdlife (particularly in the Prek Toal Biosphere Reserve); and an amazing array of aquatic wildlife and birdlife, including the almost-extinct Siamese crocodile, as well as turtles, otters, giant Mekong catfish and more than 100 species of waterbirds.
Cai Be
Cai Be, a marvellous town nestled between river and countryside, is situated in Tien Gian province in Vietnam. Travellers to this enchanting destination can admire the marvellous views over the vast rice fields, sample the delicious local cuisine and visit the many charming temples and churches. With its idyllic setting along the many rivers of the Mekong Delta region, the most iconic attraction of this enchanting destination is the Cai Be Floating Market, a locally run wholesale market offering both a selection of delicious fruit and vegetables and endless photographic opportunities. Cai Be offers easy access to the great Mỹ Thuận Bridge, the gateway to the bustling city of Vinh Long.
Kampong Cham Province
Kampong Cham province is situated in central Cambodia and offers interesting sights and activities. The provincial capital, also called Kampong Cham, lies on the Mekong and was once a French trading post. Visitors can stroll through the town centre with its colonial architecture before crossing the unique bamboo bridge – which is rebuilt every year to provide access to Ko Paen Island, where Cambodian rural life unfolds in picturesque surroundings. Active travellers can hike to the summit of Phnom Hanchey (20 kilometres north of Kampong Cham) for breathtaking views over the plains along the Mekong. The province is also home to an outstanding archaeological site, Nokor Wat, ruins dating from the 11th century and famous for their impressive murals.
