Mexico City
Mexico City, one of the world’s largest metropolises. Before the Spanish conquered ‘the New World’, the site of the current historic centre was home to ‘Tenochitlan’, the capital of the Aztecs. In 1521, the Spanish conquered and destroyed this city, building a new one on the ruins, modelled on Spanish standards. It became the capital of the Viceroyalty of New Spain. In the elegant Reforma district, you’ll find both colonial and contemporary architecture today. Be sure not to miss a visit to the Zócalo. This is one of the largest squares in the world and is dominated by the cathedral and the Palacio Nacional. In one of the corners, you can still find some remains of the most important Aztec temple complex. The square can be easily viewed from the terrace of the Hotel Majestic. The Palacio de Bellas Artes is regarded by many as the most beautiful building in the historic centre. Mexico City’s old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There is also plenty to see and do outside the historic centre of Mexico City. From magnificent ruins to impressive basilicas and perhaps even a dramatic serenade from a Mexican mariachi street band. With more than 5,500 stalls spread across seven sections, La Merced is one of the largest markets in the Americas and stands on the site of an Aztec market that existed before the Spanish conquest. It is very common for Mexicans to do their shopping at the market, and every neighbourhood has its own market, in addition to the large specialised markets.
Mexico City offers countless options for evening entertainment. Alongside the many restaurants, an increasing number of cosy cafés are also popping up. For true lovers of Latin American music, Bar León comes highly recommended. If you’re looking for a touch of authenticity, popping into a cantina is a great option (for example, El Nivel near the Zócalo). This is the Mexican version of a café where locals meet up for lunch or a drink together. Nowadays, guided tours can also be organised, taking you to various Mexican cantinas.

Baja California Sur Mexico
This remarkably large peninsula boasts some of Mexico’s most impressive landscapes, characterised by remote deserts, lush oases, towering volcanoes and a number of picturesque old mission towns. The ‘Baja’ is a water sports enthusiast’s dream, with its coastline dotted with beautiful, deserted beaches lapped by turquoise waters teeming with marine life. Other popular activities include world-class surfing, as well as excellent sailing, deep-sea fishing, hiking and whale watching.
The peninsula is also blessed with some of the world’s most fascinating ancient cave art – the Sierra de San Francisco was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its abundance of astonishing rock art sites. From the quiet, remote settlements on the East Cape to the bustling seaside resorts of Los Cabos with their luxury hotels, lively beach activities, high-end restaurants and vibrant nightlife, it is easy to see why Baja California is one of the most enchanting and popular destinations in Mexico.
Los Cabos
Idyllically situated at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, Los Cabos is the ultimate coastal destination. The area is renowned for its stunning golden sandy beaches, which offer a wide range of sports and outdoor activities both above and below the crystal-clear, azure waters. The 33-kilometre-long coastline connects the towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Whilst Cabo San Lucas is better known as a beach destination with a wild nightlife, San José is renowned for its more laid-back, sophisticated and culturally rich character.
Despite their striking differences, both towns have much to offer, and their proximity allows travellers to experience the best of both worlds.
The unique combination of desert, mountain landscapes and beautiful beaches ensures there are plenty of different activities to suit every type of traveller. Over the years, Baja California Sur has grown to become one of Mexico’s most important tourist regions.
If you’re looking for a relaxing holiday where you can spend days snorkelling and diving, with charming boutiques, galleries and museums nearby, or where you can simply lie on the beach with a good book and a delicious cocktail, look no further than the endless summer paradise of Los Cabos.

La Paz
Located on the Baja California peninsula, the city of La Paz serves as the capital of Baja California Sur. This cosmopolitan city is known for its picturesque beach promenade surrounded by a variety of cafés, bars and restaurants on one side and pristine beaches lapped by azure waters on the other. Visitors can look forward to a variety of activities, including: diving in the beauty of the Sea of Cortez, discovering the flora and fauna of Magdalena Bay and exploring the beautiful port of La Paz. Other popular activities include: swimming with whale sharks, visiting nearby Espíritu Santo Island where there is excellent snorkelling and you can go and learn more about the local culture in the enchanting town of Todos Santos.
