Destinations

Mauritius

Located on Africa's east coast in the Indian Ocean, the idyllic island of Mauritius is a romantic holiday destination. Famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, beautiful white-sand beaches and tropical climate, most visitors spend their days relaxing on the beach or in one of the many luxury resorts. Those who head inland will discover lush jungle-clad mountains, shimmering blue lagoons, impressive rivers and waterfalls, volcanic craters, charming small towns and villages and friendly locals. Must-see attractions include: the bustling capital of Port Louis with its lively local markets; the extraordinary 85-metre-high Chamarel waterfall; and Eureka, a historic plantation mansion, a museum that offers a glimpse into the island's colonial past.

Northern Mauritius

Northern Mauritius, like most of the island, is known for its soft white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters surrounded by swaying palm trees. It is home to a variety of fascinating attractions, including the Mauritius National Botanical Garden, with more than 650 plant species; Port Louis, the island's bustling capital; and the Sugar Estate and Museum. Other northern highlights include: lively nightlife in the charming village of Grand Bay with its beautiful beaches and the picturesque village of Cap Malheureux with its famous red-roofed chapel.

Riviere du Rempart

Popular tourist destination Riviere du Rempart is located in the north-eastern part of Mauritius. The beautiful Grand Baie Beach is a paradise for sailing and diving enthusiasts, who have an array of marinas, facilities and tours at their fingertips. Active types will also enjoy the chance to rent or charter sailboats, or kite surf, dive, big game fishing. Those looking for simple relaxation will also find what they need among the powdery white sands, turquoise waters and lush palm trees. The beach also boasts one of the few restaurants in Mauritius that is actually on the beach. A thriving nightlife, a nearby UNESCO-listed historical site (Aapravasi Ghat, an ancient temple) and several meditation centres complete the enticing package. Other must-sees include the Grand Gaube, Roches Noires and Plaine des Papayes.

Grand Gaube

Located in the Rivière du Rampart, on the north coast of Mauritius, Grand Gaube is a tranquil village surrounded by beautiful white-sand beaches, lapped by the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean and surrounded by swaying palms. Visitors can look forward to snorkelling, swimming and excellent diving in the incredibly turquoise waters, enjoy local musicians and dancers, have lunch or dinner at a variety of restaurants and bars, explore the vibrant nightlife and browse through lively markets. Other popular activities include boating, golfing and lazing on an array of pristine beaches.

Blue Bay

Blue Bay, located in the less developed south of Mauritius, is known for its rugged landscape and magnificent coastal scenery. It boasts beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters, making it a popular destination for visitors as the rest of the southern coast has no beaches. Visitors can look forward to a range of fantastic activities, such as: enjoying a scenic drive through the Mauritian countryside and driving from Souillac to Le Morne, a popular coastal road; or exploring the Blue Bay Marine Park with the best of the island's pristine coral reefs and a rich diversity of marine life. Other nearby attractions include the town of Mahebourg and the Ile aux Aigrettes nature reserve.
