Armenia

Armenia is an entirely landlocked country situated between Asia and Europe. Its capital, Yerevan, is dotted with green, leafy spaces and steeped in history dating back 2,800 years. You can tour the city or visit the Historical Museum of Armenia to learn more about the country's ancient past, while the Armenian Genocide Museum provides a sobering insight into the tragic events of the Armenian Genocide. Outside the metropolitan area are shimmering lakes and mountains covered with alpine forests, waterfalls and ancient hilltop churches. Don't forget to take the world's longest cable car through the striking landscapes of the Vorotan Gorge to the cliff-top Tatev Monastery. Another destination you should definitely visit is Dilijan, with its emerald green hills and forests that have earned it the nickname of the 'Switzerland of Armenia'. Armenians pride themselves on their unique cuisine and a winemaking tradition dating back 600 years, so visitors can look forward to excellent food and vino!

Yerevan

Yerevan, the country's central capital, is located in the centre of Armenia. Here, history and modernity create strong contrasts and offer something for everyone. Heritage attractions include the Matenadaran, filled with ancient texts on philosophy, art and history; the mysterious 17th-century old quarter of Kond, with its Persian, Islamic and Ottoman architecture; and the incredible History Museum, with spectacular displays of ancient items such as four-wheeled wooden chariots, bronze sculptures, symbolic artworks and weapons. Yerevan's exciting cuisine is a big draw: try the traditional 'dolmas', 'fatayah' and 'lavash'.

To the north-west of the city lie the hilltop Jvari Monastery and the ancient capital, Mtskheta – both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This ancient city is home to a medieval church where Christianity was officially adopted as the country’s religion in 337 AD.
Further north lies the country’s top attraction – the Caucasus Mountains – with their network of stunning hiking trails. Highlights include Kazbegi, with a peak reaching 5,000 metres, and the lush, remote regions of Tusheti and Svaneti. Georgia also boasts fascinating cultural and archaeological attractions, such as a museum dedicated to its most famous son – Stalin – and ancient cave cities where religious minority groups took refuge to escape persecution.
