Sibiu

Sibiu is one of Romania’s most beautiful towns. It is a medieval town situated in the south of Transylvania. Sibiu is the cultural heart of the country. In 2007, the town, together with the city of Luxembourg, was named European Capital of Culture!
As a visitor, you’ll clearly see the medieval architecture reflected throughout the town. It’s as if, as a visitor, you’re stepping back in time when you see the charming buildings. There are also lovely little parks, and the food is excellent. This makes Sibiu a wonderful destination and well worth a visit.

Gura Humorului

Gura Humorului, located in the historic Bukovina region in northeastern Romania, is a city "... where sacred and secular monuments have enriched the enchanting natural landscape" (Romanian scholar Silviu Sanie). This attractive city is the perfect base to visit the nearby Painted Monasteries of Bucovina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These beautifully decorated structures are some of the most unique examples of Byzantine art - stories from the Bible painted on the outside of the church walls. As some of the few Romanian Orthodox churches, they are still visited as pilgrimage sites today. The Folk Traditions Museum gives an insight into ancient customs of the area. With charming rural scenes, beautiful wooded hills and quaint traditional villages decorated in ancient times, the city also has a great atmosphere.

Sighisoara

Sighisoara is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe, which makes it truly unique. The historic town lies on the banks of the River Tarnava Mare in Mures County. Surrounded by lush, rolling hills, this picturesque Romanian town features red-tiled roofs and labyrinthine cobbled streets lined with pastel-coloured historic buildings leading to picturesque squares.
It is also situated in the famous region of Transylvania and is an excellent base from which to explore the Saxon villages of Viscri and Biertan. Wander through the medieval streets and spot tall towers, discover the ancient fortified walls that surround the town, and visit the array of enchanting cafés, inviting restaurants and craft shops. The old town is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the birthplace of Dracula.
