Bazaruto Archipelago

The Bazaruto archipelago, located in the warm Indian Ocean off the coast of Vilanculos in Mozambique, is part of a protected marine park and consists of five idyllic islands: Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Santa Carolina and Bangue. These small, sandy and exceptionally beautiful islands have some of Africa's best beaches, as well as a number of large dunes and freshwater lakes, which are ideal breeding grounds for black-winged flamingos. Just offshore, visitors can explore a kaleidoscope of colourful corals teeming with exotic marine life - whale sharks, dolphins, turtles and dugongs. Active visitors can go scuba diving, snorkelling, deep-sea fishing and sailing, while history buffs and culture enthusiasts can indulge in the picturesque Vilankulo lighthouse and ruins, built in the Great Zimbabwe tradition.

Mozambique

This tropical paradise is located on the east coast of Africa with 2,500 km of spectacular coastline. With its idyllic palm-fringed beaches and crystal clear waters brimming with beautiful marine life, this enchanting African country is an ideal holiday destination for adventure, offering a plethora of activities such as snorkelling, sunset cruises, horse riding, dolphin tours and world-renowned diving opportunities. Mozambique's two main cities, Maputo and Inhambane, offer an exotic kaleidoscope of art, music and delicious local cuisine, as well as a vibrant nightlife. Spend your days immersed in the fascinating local culture, enjoying the impressive colonial architecture and interacting with the friendly locals. Those looking for a more remote adventure there are many beautiful less visited areas such as the beaches of Benguerra Island, the historic Portuguese and Islamic architecture of Mozambique Island or the wildlife of Gorongosa National Park. However you choose to spend your time in this exceptionally beautiful destination, you are likely to leave with a heavy heart and a burning desire to return again and again.

Benguerra Island

Benguerra, the second largest island in the idyllic Bazaruto archipelago, is a tropical paradise with long palm-fringed white beaches, green rainforest and temperate turquoise seas drenched with coral reefs. Benguerra was designated a national park in 1971 and wildlife thrives in this pristine environment, including freshwater crocodiles, turtles, monkeys, bucks and more than 150 bird species. The surrounding ocean is drenched in beautiful coral reefs, home to a kaleidoscopic variety of vividly coloured tropical fish and offers some of the most spectacular snorkelling and diving opportunities in the world. These pristine waters are even visited by the rare dugong, an ancient marine animal currently found in only a few locations around the world.

Maputo

Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, is renowned for its well-preserved Portuguese colonial architecture. With its stunning Art Deco architecture and exceptional hilltop location overlooking the glistening Bay of Maputo, Maputo once shone as the ‘Riviera’ of southern Africa. Maputo, formerly known as Lourenço Marques, is Mozambique’s largest city and home to the country’s most famous port.
The city is well equipped with a wide choice of hotels, supermarkets, restaurants, a vibrant cultural scene and street-side terraces. Visitors can stroll through the jacaranda-lined streets of the Baixa district in the old town, explore Praça da Independência, discover the neoclassical town hall and admire Maputo’s unique bronze domed railway station. Other popular activities include visiting the beautiful beaches of Catembe and Ponta d’Oura, as well as snorkelling and diving in Mozambique’s warm waters.

Southern Mozambique

Friendly people, beautiful beaches, balmy tropical climate, fantastic seafood and crumbling yet elegant colonial buildings. Southern Mozambique is an utterly charming travel destination. In the capital, Maputo, you can enjoy the vibrant local nightlife, check out the lively market or enjoy fresh king prawns along the seaside promenades. Just a few hours outside the city, the port town of Inhambane has some intriguing old Portuguese architecture, as well as a wide lagoon where visitors can take a dhow to the neighbouring village of Maxixe. The coastal destinations of Tofo, Barra and Pandane each have their own charms - visit Tofo to surf and dive with whale sharks, Barra for its sublime beach and adventure activities and Pandane for a special snorkelling experience.

Central Mozambique

The remote and relatively undeveloped region of Central Mozambique is home to some of the country’s best-kept tourist secrets. The main attraction of this flourishing oasis is the easily accessible Gorongosa National Park, which boasts impressive caves and thrilling game drives through a diverse range of scenic landscapes, teeming with wildlife and bird species. A playground for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike, travellers to Central Mozambique can hike Monte Binga, Mozambique’s highest mountain, which offers magnificent views out to the Indian Ocean; visit the remote Lake Cahora Bassa on the Zambezi River to enjoy excellent fishing opportunities; and head to the Bazaruto Archipelago to swim and snorkel in the clear, turquoise waters teeming with colourful fish.

Chitengo

Chitengo is a tiny settlement set at the heart of the breathtaking Gongorosa National Park in Mozambique. The untamed grassy savannah, lush green wetlands fringed with palms, and wild, towering mountains provide the perfect setting for hiking, mountain biking, climbing and birdwatching. Bathe in waterfalls, explore fever tree forests, and photograph jaw-dropping gorges. Chitengo is home to an abundance of wildlife: look out for lions, hyenas, elephants, zebras, spotted eagle owls, and a variety of spectacular butterfly species. Did you know? In the 1960s, the area was a popular holiday destination for Hollywood stars.
