Mutianyu Great Wall Travel Area
The Great Wall at Mutianyu lies 70 kilometres north-east of Beijing and stretches for 5.4 kilometres across rolling hills. Originally built during the Northern Qi dynasty, it was reinforced by the Ming dynasty to strengthen defences. This section is renowned for its strategic importance and well-preserved condition, with 23 watchtowers dotted along the path.
Compared to the busier Badaling section, Mutianyu is much quieter, allowing visitors to explore the Wall in a more relaxed atmosphere. The journey time from Beijing is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, making it an easily accessible day trip.
Visitors can reach the Wall by cable car, chairlift or toboggan run, making it accessible to everyone. In spring, the area is adorned with blossoms; in summer, with lush greenery; and in autumn, golden leaves provide a striking contrast to the ancient stones. In winter, the Wall is often covered in snow, creating a dramatic effect.
The landscape around the Wall is largely wooded, with the trees providing shade and shelter. Among the Wall’s unique features are the Zhengguan Terrace and the Great Corner Tower, both of which offer exceptional views.

Shanghai
Located at the mouth of the famous Yangtze River, the famous international metropolis of Shanghai is a bold and distinct mix of East and West. You will find some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world, historic shikumen houses with a style that is a blend of Chinese architecture and a European touch. Shanghai also has one of the richest collections of Art Deco buildings in the world. Must-see attractions include: the Yuyuan Gardens; the many traditional Chinese tea houses offering a wide range of tea, along with traditional Chinese delicacies; and the Shanghai Museum with its impressive ancient bronze exhibition. With such a wide range of attractions and all that this city has to offer, you will not get bored here.

Xi'an
Xi'an is the eastern terminus of the Silk Road and lies on the Weihe River to the north and the Qin Mountains to the south. The city is at the heart of the beginnings of Chinese civilisation. It was once the capital of China and today is an important economic, cultural, and industrial centre of the central-northwestern region. The city offers visitors modern facilities, as well as numerous world-class ancient, religious and cultural attractions. Xi'an thus provides an insight into the great changes China has gone through, like a living history book. Must-see attractions include the tomb of Emperor Jingdi, the perfectly restored and mighty city wall and, of course, the terracotta army. For those seeking a unique, authentic and fascinating cultural experience, Xi'an is sure to impress.

Beijing
Beijing is the economic, political and educational centre of China. The city is famous for its Hutongs, traditional dwellings in small streets with a courtyard (siheyuan). Since the mid-20th century, many hutongs have been demolished to make way for new roads and buildings. A visit to Beijing offers a glimpse into China's imperial past. Highlights of Beijing include Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Olympic Stadium. It is also a good starting point for a visit to the legendary Great Wall of China.

China
Hangzhou
The peaceful tranquillity of Hangzhou is the perfect antidote to the busy metropolis of Shanghai. Hangzhou locals take immense pride in their beautiful garden city and, as the old Chinese saying goes, 'In heaven there is paradise, on earth there is Hangzhou'. By Chinese standards, the city boasts plenty of greenery, classic gardens and flourishing parks that can be found everywhere. West Lake and its lush green surroundings are undoubtedly the city's biggest attraction. Willows and pagodas line the shores of this beautiful lake while small boats float by, forming a typical Chinese landscape. Take a stroll along the elevated road by the lake; you will feel the city's peaceful ethos and better understand its time-honoured fame as 'Heaven on Earth'.

Chengdu
The city of Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in southwest China and serves as a popular transport hub for the entire region. The city is known for its wonderfully relaxing tea house culture, exceptionally spicy culinary scene and vibrant nightlife enhanced by the large number of students. The main attraction is undoubtedly the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a protected centre where visitors can see endangered giant pandas in their natural habitat. Other attractions not to be missed are the Jinsha Site Museum with artefacts from the Shu Kingdom, many of which date back to the 4th century BC.

Zhejiang Province
Located in eastern China, the coastal province of Zhejiang is a premier tourist region. Conveniently accessed from Shanghai, the scenic capital city of Hangzhou is undoubtedly the main tourist hub of the province, with its picturesque setting on West Lake and its many ancient temples and pagodas to admire. However, in addition to its photogenic capital, Zhejiang has many other key sights to offer, such as Wuzhen, an ancient 'water town' of stone bridges and interconnected canals, and Qiandao Lake, a man-made freshwater lake containing over 1000 islands. Finally, the port city of Ningbo provides access to two fantastic attractions: the island of Putuoshan, an important Buddhist pilgrimage centre, and Baoguo Temple, the second-oldest surviving wooden structure in southern China.
Dujiangyan
Just northwest of the city of Chengdu is Dujiangyan, in Sichuan province. This region is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Qingcheng Shan, a famous mountain considered the cradle of Taoism, where visitors can hike through misty forests to ancient temples and waterfalls; and the more than 2,000-year-old Dujiangyan Irrigation System, the first system in the world that managed to control river floods without the use of dams.
Other popular highlights include visiting giant pandas at the Dujiangyan Panda Base, where visitors can spend a day volunteering and helping to care for these adorable animals.
Don't miss the cultural attractions either, such as the Confucius Temple of Dujiangyan, where you can learn about the Six Arts, and the ancient town of Jiezi, birthplace of the famous Tang Dynasty poet Tang Qiu.
Tianjin
Identifiable by its luminous cityscape, the bustling Tianjin is a wondrous municipality and coastal metropolis in Northern China. With fascinating scenery, cultural masterpieces, diverse cuisine and charming sites of worship, Tianjin draws in travellers from far and wide to explore its many wonders. Visitors to this lively destination can meander through the Haihe riverside facade of Treaty Port Area; admire the historical paintings and ceramics at the Folk Art Museum; watch a fantastic opera performance at the Guangdong Guild Hall; enjoy a cup of coffee at the Minyuan Plaza; and immerse themselves in culture at the iconic Monastery of Deep Compassion. Don't miss out on the magical views offered during a ride on the acclaimed Eye of Tianjin, a 120-metre tall ferries wheel build over the tranquil Haihe River.
