Frequently asked questions Dubai

Dubai: Desert city full of contrasts
Located on the Persian Gulf, Dubai is an intriguing mix of modern technology and traditional Arab culture. The city is world-famous for its iconic skyline with structures such as the Burj Khalifa and the Palm Jumeirah, but also offers surprisingly natural elements, such as golden deserts, mangrove reserves and vast coastlines.

Modern comfort and Arabian flair
Those who visit Dubai experience the best of both worlds: state-of-the-art shopping malls, such as the Dubai Mall, and centuries-old markets such as the Gold and Spice Souk. In neighbourhoods like Al Fahidi, Dubai's historical character comes alive with traditional wind towers, museums and art galleries. The city is also buzzing with cultural events, culinary highlights and international festivals.

Adventure in the desert
Outside the city, a world of adventure awaits. Take a jeep safari across the sand dunes, ride a camel at sunset or dine under the stars in a Bedouin camp. For an unexpected winter experience, there is Ski Dubai, an indoor ski resort where you can ski, snowboard or even meet penguins in the middle of the desert.

Travel in and around Dubai
Dubai is an excellent base for a versatile trip. Whether you opt for a city trip full of luxury and design, a family trip with beach and theme parks, or a tour combining culture and nature: everything is possible. Thanks to an excellent road network, modern infrastructure and a wide range of hotels, travelling in and around Dubai is comfortable, safe and surprisingly versatile.

Dubai has a desert climate and year-round sunshine. The city has two main seasons: a warm winter and a very hot summer. The best travel time depends mainly on what you want to do, from relaxing at the beach to adventures in the desert or shopping in air-conditioned malls. Here is an overview by season:

Winter (November - March): This is by far the most popular period to visit Dubai. Temperatures are pleasant (around 24-28 °C), ideal for sightseeing, beach days, desert safaris and cultural trips. Many festivals, such as the Dubai Shopping Festival, also take place during this period. Bear in mind slightly busier hotels and higher prices.

Spring (April - May): Temperatures rise, especially in May, but it is still quite possible to be active outdoors, especially in the early morning or afternoon. A good period for those who want to avoid the crowds, with often more favourable hotel rates.

Summer (June - September): Temperatures can reach above 45 °C. Outdoor activities are then limited, but inside everything is excellently cooled. Summer is perfect for those who want to take advantage of lower fares and especially enjoy luxury hotels, shopping, wellness or indoor attractions such as Ski Dubai and aquariums.

Autumn (October): In October, temperatures slowly drop and tourism starts to pick up. It is a fine month for a first sun holiday after summer and to rediscover the desert without extreme heat.

Note that Dubai is well adapted to the climate: from air-conditioned bus shelters to indoor shopping malls and activities to suit every season. If you are travelling with children or mainly want to be outdoors, the cooler months are the most comfortable. Prefer quiet and economical? Then hot summer offers surprising advantages.
