1. Do I need a visa or ETA for Scotland?
No visa is usually required for travellers from the Netherlands, Belgium and the EU for stays of up to 6 months. However, since 2 April 2025, an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) is required. Always check the latest entry requirements for your nationality before leaving.
2. What is the best length of trip for Scotland?
An average tour of Scotland lasts between 7 and 14 days. This gives enough time to explore cities, castles, islands and nature reserves in a relaxed way.
3. What is the best way to travel around Scotland?
The most flexible way to travel is by hire car (note that people drive on the left side of the road here), especially for exploring rural areas and islands. There are also trains and buses between the larger cities, and ferries to the islands.
4. Is Scotland good to combine with another travel destination?
Combine Scotland with a visit to England, Ireland or Wales. With good rail, air and ferry connections, you can easily explore several parts of the UK or the British Isles in one trip.
5. Will English be OK in Scotland?
English is the main language in Scotland, although you may also hear Scottish Gaelic in certain regions. In tourist areas, excellent English is spoken almost everywhere.
