Moldova is a surprising destination that can be visited all year round. The best time to visit depends on your interests. Below is an overview by season:
Spring (April–June): The ideal time to visit Moldova. Temperatures are pleasant, nature is in full bloom and the vineyards are a fresh shade of green. This is an excellent time to visit historic monasteries such as Orheiul Vechi and Căpriana, go for walks through nature reserves and enjoy the first wine tastings of the season.
Summer (July–August): The hottest months of the year, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures regularly exceeding 30 degrees. Ideal for a tour taking in vineyards, castles and authentic villages. During this period, there are also various wine, music and cultural festivals taking place, although it can get quite hot during the day.
Autumn (September–October): For many, the most beautiful time of year to travel. The grape harvest is in full swing and wine festivals are being organised everywhere. Temperatures are still pleasant, the landscapes are turning shades of golden yellow and red, and it is the perfect time to visit the famous wineries of Cricova, Milestii Mici and Purcari.
Winter (November – March): Winter is peaceful and atmospheric, particularly in the capital, Chisinau, where Christmas markets and winter events take place. The landscape takes on a serene air and cultural attractions can be visited without the crowds. Although Moldova is not a winter sports destination, this period offers an authentic introduction to the local culture and traditions.
Please note: In July and August, temperatures can rise significantly, particularly inland. Those who enjoy travelling in comfort and wish to make the most of nature, culture and wine are best advised to visit in spring or autumn. These seasons combine pleasant weather with quiet attractions and the most beautiful landscapes.
