The Prince of Wales's Guesthouse
The Prince of Wales' private nature retreat is tucked among the meadows and hills of the Zalán Valley (Zalánpatak, Valea Zălanului) in Transylvania. The property has retained its Transylvanian authenticity by being carefully restored using traditional methods and materials. It is now open to individual travellers from all over the world.
Its philosophy of restoring heritage architecture is characterised by the utmost respect for the textures and atmospheres of old buildings. All rooms have been lovingly restored and furnished with authentic antiques and textiles from Transylvania. To create an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity, there is no television or radio; instead, you will find numerous interesting books on the shelves.
The Prince of Wales hopes that his guesthouse will encourage more people to visit Transylvania, thus promoting sustainable development. Proceeds from the guest house will go to the Prince of Wales Foundation in Romania, a member of The Prince's Charities.
